about...The Tom Scott Foundation's Thomas Scott Memorial Golf Tournament was created by the friends and family of the late Thomas Scott. It was thought a fitting remembrance for a family and community oriented man. Golf was a passion of Tom's and what better way to memorialize him by sponsoring a tournament in his name which benefits the Spring Creek Junior Golf Program and the Great Basin College Scholarship Program! The Tom Scott Foundation and the Thomas Scott Memorial Golf Tournament is dedicated to and held in memory of Mr. Thomas Scott while sponsored by the Thomas Scott Foundation. An Elkoan for many years and underground miner for Newmont Mining Corporation , Thomas J. Scott was just 30 years old when he was suddenly taken from his family and friends in a tragic accident on January 9, 2001. Tom is survived by his wife, 14 year old son and many friends who miss him. The tournament is our way of memorializing Thomas for his love of family, friends and life. Tom was not only a loving family man but an active member of the community. Tournament proceeds benefit many organizations. In past years, the Tom Scott Foundation has awarded monies to Great Basin College by means of a memorial scholarship to students, the Spring Creek Golf Course Junior Golf Program and countless other organizations that demonstrate the TSF mission statement, “To further academic and athletic opportunities for the youth of Elko County.” Earlier this year the TSF made a commitment to continue assisting the Junior Golf Program. “The donations will be used for equipment and resources associated with the program”, said Spring Creek Golf Course Professional and program coordinator Jason Jerman. “We really appreciate all the help the Committee has given us. It's a fun tournament for a great cause.” The Tom Scott Foundation presented the Spring Creek Junior Golf Program with a donation check on Monday, June 13th. The Junior Golf Program has grown to over 100 members due to the generosity that the Foundation has contributed the past four years. The Committee has donated to the Igloo organization, the Spring Creek High School Golf Team for purchasing much needed equipment, the Gamble Oak Pony Club to assist sending their trainers for their programs to important seminars, and the Cinderella Scholarship Pageant. The Committee has also donated to such groups as; Sage Elementary, Spring Creek Trap and Skeet, and Adopt a Family among others. You can check out important TSF dates by viewing our online calendar!
